Bamboo
Caring for what should last
Three materials, three sets of rules. None of them is hard, and they decide whether a thing stays with you for years.
Cool to the touch
Bamboo fibre draws moisture away faster than cotton, which is why the swaddle works well in summer and in overheated flats. In winter, wrap the baby in the swaddle under a merino blanket rather than instead of it.
Washing and drying
We wash it by hand only, in lukewarm water. We do not wring it, because wet bamboo easily loses its shape. We press the excess water out through a towel and dry it flat, away from radiators. No bleach and no dryer. It sounds like a lot of work, but bamboo repays it with a smoothness no other fabric gives.
What to avoid
Chlorine bleach and fabric softeners. Bamboo is soft anyway, and softener only settles on the fibre and takes away its absorbency.
